RESTON

The master plan for Reston, a wholly new city of 75,000, was completed by our office in 1963. Our office also designed all buildings of the first village center of the city, Lake Anne Center. The village center opened in 1966 to national acclaim; it was declared an historic landmark 25 years later and was saluted by the AIA that same year. The master plan, which pioneered and introduced many innovative planning ideas, structured the new town around seven village centers and a town center (see John F. Kennedy Library video about Dulles airport opening in Reston, VA). The town has successfully attracted industry, offices, and research facilities; many who work in Reston also live there. A concept additional to Reston called Reston Town Center began construction independently in 1990.

Recently, James Rossant Architects acted as consultants to Lake Anne Village and has guided the renovation of some of its important buildings and sculpture.
